BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Freshman Kristen Hayden of the University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team qualified for the NCAA Championships by virtue of a seventh-place finish on the one-meter springboard (548.05) on Friday (March 10) during the second day of the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships at the Counsilman Billingsley Aquatic Center. The team now stands at 13 individual qualifiers, one more than last year.
Hayden's qualification gives Michigan three divers at next week's NCAA Championships, following berths from seniors Allie Murphy and Keegan McCaffrey on three-meter yesterday. In addition to one-meter, Hayden will also be able to compete on three-meter at the NCAA Championships because she finished in the top 12 on that board yesterday.
McCaffrey joined Hayden in the semifinals, finishing 13th (526.90).
The NCAA Zone C Diving Championships conclude tomorrow (Saturday, March 11) with platform diving, beginning at 11 a.m. Zone C has been allocated six spots for that event. Having already qualified on one event, the three divers can add platform at the NCAA Championships if they can secure top-12 finishes tomorrow.
