ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan rowing program wrapped up its fall home schedule on Sunday (Oct. 8) on a high note, finding a number of positive results in a series of competitive pieces with Big Ten rival Ohio State.
OSU got the better of the Wolverines in the big picture, but U-M won two races and showed its competitiveness all morning, battling with what is sure to be one of the nation's top teams. The U-M coaching staff played with a couple of different lineups, and elected not to rank its boats as it continues to find the best combinations and race lineups for the team.
Today's races provided a nice checkpoint for the staff and athletes as they continue to search for areas of improvement headed into the winter training season.
"We have plenty to work on but there were a lot of positives to take away from today's races," said head coach Mark Rothstein.
"We have returners who know what it takes, and we have freshmen who want to put the work in and want to be great. Now our leadership has to take us to the next step."
The Wolverines and Buckeyes took to the water after the U-M novice program wrapped up an early-morning set with Eastern Michigan. The Michigan 1N boat won each piece as the team raced in sixes.
U-M is back on the water for its fall finale in two Sundays (Oct. 22) with the Head of the Charles event in Boston, Massachusetts, while the novice program wraps its fall slate at Michigan State the following Saturday (Oct. 28).
