Wolverines Bounce Back with Shutout of Arkansas

NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 19-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team bounced back for a 4-0 shutout win over No. 25-ranked Arkansas in the consolation match of the ITA Kick-Off on Sunday (Jan. 29) at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
U-M switched up its doubles lineup and came away with the match's first point, winning at No. 1 and No. 2. Senior Jathan Malik and freshman Connor Johnston took an early break at the top spot en route to a 6-1 win.
Juniors Alex Knight and Runhao Hua followed a few minutes later with a 6-3 win at No. 2 to clinch the doubles point.
U-M dominated in singles action, winning all six first sets to take control of the match.
The bottom of the lineup came through for the Maize and Blue as U-M got wins at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6.
Junior Davis Crocker was the first off court, dropping just two games in a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5.
Knight was Michigan's third point of the afternoon, winning 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 to put the Wolverines on the brink of the team win.
Johnston picked up his first collegiate dual-match win, clinching the U-M victory with a 6-4, 6-3 decision at No. 6.
The remaining three Wolverines on court were each a game away from winning their respective matches.
The Wolverines kick off the home portion of their schedule on Thursday (Feb. 2), hosting Princeton at 6 p.m.
