
Emily Sugiyama Named Assistant Coach

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Emily Sugiyama (2009-12) has been elevated to a full-time coaching position, University of Michigan rowing head coach Mark Rothstein announced today (Friday, Aug. 26).
"I'm excited to return to Michigan in a full-time role and look forward to an exciting future in Ann Arbor with the rowing program," Sugiyama said.
Sugiyama returned to Michigan as a volunteer assistant coach before the start of the 2013-14 season, working primarily with the novice program in her first season at Michigan. She continued with the rowing program as a graduate assistant while pursuing a degree in sport management. She worked primarily with the varsity fours over the past two seasons while also coaching the entire varsity team. Sugiyama helped the first varsity four reach the grand final at the 2016 NCAA Rowing Championships this past spring.
A decorated rower at Michigan, Sugiyama earned a Program in the Environment degree in 2013 was tabbed a CRCA Pocock First Team All-American and All-Region member during her senior season. She helped the first varsity eight to a Big Ten title and runner-up finish at the NCAA Rowing Championships. A native of Hanoeye-Falls, New York, Sugiyama is the older sister of Jessica Eiffert (2012-15), who was also an All-American during her tenure at Michigan.
