ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan rowing sophomore Kendall Brewer and junior Kaitlin Wright were named Pocock second team All-Americans by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association last night (Thursday, June 9). Both Brewer and Wright are members of Michigan's first varsity eight that helped the Wolverines to their ninth straight trip to the NCAA Rowing Championships and 16th full-team bid (17th overall selection) in 20 seasons as a program. Michigan finished 10th overall at the regatta.
Brewer, a native of Austin, Texas, is in her second season on Michigan's 1V8. She earned All-Big Ten first team and CRCA All-Region first ream honors previously this season. Rowing in the No. 6 seat at the end of the season, Brewer helped Michigan's 1V8 to an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Championships and a second-place showing at the Big Ten Rowing Championships, where the Wolverines were narrowly edged by Ohio State in a photo finish. Brewer was invited to the USRowing U23 Selection Camp in Princeton, New Jersey, this summer, where she will compete for a spot on USRowing's U23 World Championships roster.
Wright, a native of Lakeville, Minnesota, is also in her second year on the first varsity eight. She collected All-Big Ten first team and CRCA All-Region honors in May. In the No. 7 seat on Michigan's 1V8, Wright was one of the Wolverines' team leaders in 2015-16 and will be part of a first varsity eight crew that returns its entire boat roster in 2016-17.
In addition, junior Tessa Yurko earned CRCA All-Region second team honors. A native of Buffalo, New York, Yurko earned All-Big Ten second team honors rowing in the No. 5 seat of the 1V8. Yurko also will participate in the USRowing U23 Selection Camp along with Brewer later this summer.
