SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- University of Michigan junior evolutionary anthropology major Kinsey Vear earned the NCAA Elite 90 Academic Recognition Award for rowing on Thursday afternoon (May 26) at the NCAA Rowing Championships.
The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 90 championships.
Vear is the third Michigan student-athlete to receive the award since its inception in 2009-10, joining Danielle Johnson (women's water polo, 2016) and Benjamin Baldus-Strauss (men's gymnastics, 2010).
A native of Marquette, Michigan, Vear is a member of U-M's 1V4 crew that will compete tomorrow morning at the NCAA Rowing Championships on Lake Natoma in Gold River, California. Vear's 1V4 crew, seeded 11th, will race in Heat 3 at 2 p.m. EDT.
