VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The University of Michigan rowing team held exhibition races against Michigan State, Indiana on Saturday (March 26) at Belleville Lake.
"This was a really great event," said head coach Mark Rothstein. "We got a lot information about how we are racing and there are a lot of positives and also some clear things that we need to work on. I was particularly pleased with our novice boats, which had strong performances."
The Wolverines had a strong showing with victories in all 12 simulated 1,500-meter races. The racing gave U-M an opportunity to gain some experience in racing situations.
Ohio State joined the three teams for the top novice races. The Wolverines finished well ahead of the pack the first time around. In the second race, Michigan and Michigan State 1-2, with Indiana and Ohio State behind.
The 2V8 cruised to a pair of wins and the first race for the 2V4 saw U-M lead the field ahead Indiana. The second novice boat finished off each set of six races with victories as well.
The Wolverines will now travel to Columbus, Ohio, to race head-to-head against Virginia at 9 a.m. and Clemson at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 2.
