The University of Michigan women's basketball team (15-11, 7-8 Big Ten) returns to Crisler Center for the final time this season, hosting Penn State (10-16, 5-10 Big Ten) on Saturday (Feb. 20) at noon. The game can be seen live on the Big Ten Network. The contest also marks National Girls and Women in Sports Day for Michigan, as several other women's teams will be in attendance at the game.
• Michigan's three seniors -- Kelsey Mitchell, Madison Ristovski and Halle Wangler -- will be honored as part of today's game. All three Wolverines have had very different paths since joining the team. Ristovski is on pace to graduate as Michigan's career leader in games played, while ranking in the top 10 of assists and three-pointers made. Mitchell was injured for the majority of her first two seasons and played sparingly last season. This year, she has recorded the first double-double of her career (15 points, 11 rebounds against Iowa) and is averaging career highs in points (6.9) and rebounds (4.8) in just under 16 minutes per game. Wangler joined the teams as a walk-on prior to the 2013-14 season after spending two seasons at Oakland. She has appeared in 16 career games and scored the first basket of her Michigan career against USC Upstate earlier this season. Head coach Kim Barnes Arico gave Wangler a full scholarship for this semester before the team left for Michigan State.
• Michigan has scored at least 80 points in 15 of its games, including seven of its last 10 and has topped 90 points nine times. U-M is 13-2 when it scores at least 80 points, with its only losses coming against No. 7 Ohio State and Nebraska.
• Freshman Hallie Thome is second nationally and in the Big Ten in field goal percentage (.648). Michigan's single-season record for field goal percentage (minimum 5FGM/game) is .622, set by Pollyanna Johns during the 1997-98 season.
• Sophomore Katelynn Flaherty has scored in double figures in all but one game this season, ranking eighth nationally at 22.2 points per game. She has five 30-point games this season and has topped 20 points 16 times. Flaherty's 578 points is already the third-best single-season total in school history and she is three points away from tying the sophomore record at U-M.
• Michigan has three games remaining in the regular season and finds itself in a very crowded middle of the Big Ten. U-M is tied for seventh with Rutgers and Purdue at 7-8. Including Saturday's (Feb. 20) contest, Michigan's last three games are against teams at or below U-M in the standings: Penn State (5-10), Northwestern (3-12) and Rutgers (7-8).
• The Lady Lions (10-16, 5-10 Big Ten) are coming to Ann Arbor after a 73-54 win at Northwestern on Wednesday (Feb. 17). PSU features three double-figure scorers in Teniya Page (15.4 ppg), Brianna Banks (13.6 ppg) and Lindsey Spann (13.1 ppg). Penn State averages 70.3 points per game on 41.4 percent shooting. Michigan came away with a 91-87 win at Penn State on Jan. 17, but PSU leads the all-time series against U-M, 31-11.
• Michigan is trying for its first season sweep of Penn State since the 2000-01 season. Michigan defeated Penn State three times that season, including a win at the Big Ten Tournament. U-M has one season sweep this year, knocking out Minnesota twice.
