ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior port/starboard Jessica Eiffert and senior port Alex Spaulding of the University of Michigan rowing team have been selected to 2015 Pocock All-America teams, the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced today (Monday, June 15).
Eiffert and Spaulding were part of Michigan's first varsity eight boat this past season, joining coxswain Hannah Sherman as the lone seniors on the 1V8. They helped the Wolverines earn a 10th-place finish at the NCAA Rowing Championships, taking eighth place in the first varsity eight with its best time of the weekend (6:27.251) in a second-place finish in the petite final. Michigan's 1V8 crew also finished second at the Big Ten Rowing Championships in 6:44.893, as they were narrowly edged by top-ranked Ohio State.
Eiffert is now a three-time All-American, twice earning first team honors (2014, 2015) and once earning a spot on the second team (2013). An All-Big Ten first team honoree, Eiffert is participating in the 2015 USRowing U23 National Team Selection Camp at Princeton University in preparation for the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, from July 22-26. Eiffert was a member of the U23 USRowing National Team last summer at the 2014 World Rowing U23 Championships in Varese, Italy. Eiffert earned two medals, gold in the women's eight and silver in the women's pair.
Spaulding earns her first CRCA All-America honor after showing improvement every year during her time at Michigan. An All-Big Ten first team selection after her first year on the first varsity eight crew, Spaulding started in the novice program as a freshman, entering the program as a four-sport athlete coming out of Watervliet (Michigan) High School. Spaulding is also currently participating at the U23 USRowing Selection Camp.
