Michigan improved to 10-6 in the all-time series against Alabama. U-M has won all three meetings between the teams this season.
U-M improved to 10-20 in all-time Women's College World Series games. It is U-M's third win in the WCWS first round.
Michigan extended its winning streak to 26 straight games, stretching back to April 4. It is the second-longest win streak in program history.
The Wolverines upped their season home run tally to 117 and again leads the country the category. U-M is the only team at the WCWS to boast a pair of players with 20-plus home runs. Junior Sierra Romero and sophomore Kelly Christner both own 21 homers this year.
Michigan became the first Big Ten team to shut out Alabama since Penn State did so in 2003. It is also just the second time the Crimson Tide have been held scoreless this season (March 21 vs. Florida).
Romero extended her hit streak to 10 games. Her career-long hit streak is 12 games.
With her run in the fourth, Romero improved on her own single-season (83) and career (225) Michigan records in the category.
Sophomore RHP Megan Betsa earned her 31st career win to move to sixth among U-M's all-time single-season wins leaders. She is tied with four other Wolverines, including teammate Sara Driesenga (2013).
Michigan head coach Carol Hutchins earned her 1,429th career win to move to second place among the all-time winningest coaches in NCAA history, surpassing Arizona's Mike Candrea (1,428).
