INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Highlighted by a career-best even-par 72 from freshman Emily White and a rain-delayed 297 second round, the University of Michigan women's golf team sits fifth with a 588 total, dropping two positions today (Saturday, April 25) at the Big Ten Championships being played at the Fort Golf Resort.
The Wolverines, who posted a 291 in yesterday's (Friday, April 24) first round, will conclude the conference tournament playing with Wisconsin, Maryland and Minnesota off the first tee beginning Sunday (April 26) at 8 a.m.
After opening her first conference tournament posting an 85, White highlighted U-M's second round with a career-best 72. Beginning her day with five straight pars, she posted back-to-back birdies on Nos. 6 and 7 to go two under. A front-side closing bogey had her make the turn to the back one under. She quickly got back to two in the red with a birdie on No. 10. As she made the home stretch, a pair of bogeys on Nos. 13 and 15 drew her back to even, where she stayed. With her career-best round, she jumped nearly 20 spots and is tied for 63rd at 157.
In addition to White's round, freshman Megan Kim stayed among the top 10 individually as she followed her two-under 69 in yesterday's opening round with a 76. Her 145 total places her tied for ninth, just four shots out of the lead. Sophomore Grace Choi used a two-over 74 to crack into the top 20 as she is tied for 19th at 149 (75-74), while junior Catherine Peters was consistent for the second day in a row, carding her another 75 as she is tied for 26th at 150 (75-75).
Additional Wolverines scores included freshman Kathy Lim, who is tied for 32nd at 151 (75-76), and senior Lauren Grogan is tied for 43rd at 152 (72-80).
