Michigan fell to 3-6-0 in the all-time series against Penn State, including a 1-3-0 record at Pegula Ice Arena. The Wolverines have lost five straight road contests and are now 4-10-0 this season in road contests (3-5-0 in Big Ten road games).
JT Compher recorded his second hat trick of the season, just two games removed from his first hat trick of season against Wisconsin on Feb. 28. Compher's hat trick was Michigan's fourth this season, as Justin Selman (Jan. 23 at Wisconsin) and Zach Hyman (Oct. 24 at UMass-Lowell) have also scored three goals in a game this season.
Compher finished with three goals, a +3 rating and a team-leading seven shots on goal in tonight's contest. His first-period shorthanded goal was Michigan's third SHG this season and Compher's first this year. Last season, Compher led the team with three shorthanded goals.
Compher and Andrew Copp (A) have points in four straight games, while Nolan De Jong (2A) and Tyler Motte (A) have points in three straight contests.
Michigan finished the night a perfect 3-for-3 on the man advantage, the sixth time in the last seven games that the Wolverines have been perfect on the PK. The Wolverines went scoreless on four power-play chances, snapping a four-game streak of scoring at least one power-play goal.
With an assist tonight, Andrew Copp has 29 points (14G, 15A) on the campaign, matching his career-best single-season point total from last season.
Nolan De Jong notched a career-best two assists on the night, his first career multiple-point effort.
