Tonight's game at Northwestern was the 166th all-time series meeting. U-M leads the series 109-57 and has a 45-35 record in Evanston.
Tonight's game was the ninth all-time overtime game between Michigan and Northwestern. It is the first extra time game since Feb. 21, 2012, when the Wolverines claimed a 67-55 win at Welsh Ryan Arena. U-M is 5-4 all-time in overtime games against the Wildcats and 3-4 in OT games in Evanston.
Tonight is the fifth overtime game for the Wolverines this season, tying the most in a season (1979-80 and 1980-81) all-time. U-M is 1-4 in overtime this season.
Tonight is the first multiple-overtime game for U-M since March 20, 2006, an 87-84 double-overtime win over Notre Dame in the second round of the Postseason NIT.
U-M fired at 44.6 percent (25-for-56) from the field, 45.8 percent (11-for-24) from behind the arc and 81.0 percent (17-for-21) from the charity stripe, surpassing the season averages of 41.7 percent, 35.1 percent, and 75.4 percent, respectively.
The 11 three-pointers made tonight mark the sixth time U-M has nailed double-digit long-range buckets in a game this season and the first since the Big Ten opener vs. Illinois (10) on December 30, 2014.
When Michigan scored 34 points in the first half, it marked just the fifth time the Wolverines have surpassed the 30-point barrier in Big Ten conference play this season. U-M shot 55 percent in the first half (11-for-20) from the field, 50 percent (3-for-6) from behind the arc, and 90 percent (9-for-10) from the charity stripe in the first half.
The Wolverines assisted on 52.0 percent (13-for-25) of their made baskets tonight, slightly above the season average of 51.5 percent (334-for-649).
After being outrebounded 29-to-38 in the first matchup with Northwestern this season, the Maize and Blue pulled down 35 rebounds tonight, including 10 on the offensive end. It marks the 12th game this season in which U-M has had double-digit offensive rebounds.
Zak Irvin finished with a career-high 28 points, on 8-for-17 shooting, 11 rebounds and three assists. Irvin was 9-for-10 from the charity stripe (both career-highs) and has made 14 of his last 15 attempts from the line.
Zak Irvin has accounted for both of the Wolverines double-doubles this season. Irvin's first double-double was on Jan. 27 when he posted 14 points and 12 rebounds vs. Nebraska.
Zak Irvin has made a three-pointer in every game this season -- including three in tonight's game. He leads U-M with 70 this season. For his career, he has made at least one triple in 57 of 66 career games.
Aubrey Dawkins scored 15 points in the first half and finished with career-high 21 points on 7-for-11 from the field, 4-for-7 from behind the arc and a perfect 3-for-3 from the foul line.
Spike Albrecht finished with 16 points, five rebounds, eight assists and a steal. Albrecht has scored in double figures in eight straight games, the longest streak in his career, and is averaging 14.0 points per game over the stretch.
Spike Albrecht has recorded at least five assists in six of the last seven games. Albrecht has eclipsed 100 assists on the season as he has 106 through 28 games (3.8 apg), a career-best single-season total.
