
Michigan Competes against OSU in Fall Racing at Belleville Lake

VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The University of Michigan rowing team continued its fall season on Sunday (Oct. 4) morning at Belleville Lake, racing against defending national champion Ohio State in fours and eights together on the course
With four racing segments at 3,000 meters, and a stroke rate capped at 28 per minute, the challenge for both teams came in navigating a turn in the course, as the spring competition course at Belleville Lake is suited for 2,000 meters. Both teams raced twice going towards and away from the Michigan Boathouse.
Michigan fielded two varsity eight crews and had four varsity four boats on the water, while Ohio State brought one crew of eight and four varsity fours.
In each of the four racing pieces, Michigan's 'A8' crew - Alexandra Baum (coxswain), Abby Vare, Rae Oleshansky, Rachel Fanning, Shayla Lamb, Mallory Jamett, Sarah Hudnall, Kathleen Peng and Caroline Hendershot finished first, notching times of 11:24.30, 12:15.70, 11:40.70, and 12:32.80.
Racing in "even" fours, the U-M 'C4' crew of Emma Knorps (coxswain), Kendall Brewer, Meghan Gutknecht, Kalia Krichko, and Susie Stevens had the fastest time in the first, third, and fourth pieces, finishing in 12:35.50, 12:33.40, and 13:19.10. U-M's 'A4' crew of Francesca Derteano (coxswain), Felicity Cain, Rebecca Joyce and Tessa Yurko won the second piece in 13:22.70.

                The Wolverines will continue their fall season by sending their top eight crew to the Head of the Charles Regatta on Sun., (Oct. 18) in Boston, Mass.
