Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On Minnesota's Don Lucia congratulating Red for his 800th win ... "Yeah, I mean (Don) Lucia is a class guy. He's a great coach, and he is going to be around a lot longer than me, but he is a part of the coaching fraternity. He started the hard way, look at his story of his coaching in Alaska when I first met him, and then in Colorado, and then in Minnesota. He's had a good career."
On players reaction to Berenson's milestone win ... "Well, the players, they're excited. As hard as I am on them, they are still putting up with me, and they're trying hard to listen. They're good kids, so I'm lucky. I want to thank them and all the coaches and players we've had in the past."
On meaning of 800th win ... "I can tell you, I'm not digging all that stuff. When I came to Michigan, I wanted us to have a program that could become a college hockey dynasty, and I just like the way the Montreal (Canadiens) used to play in the '70s, and it was the Oilers in the '80s, and the Red Wings in the '90s, and that is the kind of program we have tried to have at Michigan. I can't say we're there yet, but that's what we are trying to do."
On team performance in the game ... "I liked our offense, and I didn't like our defense. I see Mike Knuble in the back, he's smirking. As players, I call it 'holiday hockey.' The game got out of control in terms of good defense or good goalies. Their goalie is one of the best goalies in the country, and he had to come out, it just wasn't working for them. Our goalie had to come out, he had a foot he couldn't put any weight on. It was a weird game, but we found a way to win it, and that's the important thing. They're a great team, and we are going to play them again in their barn, so we don't want to get too carried away."
U-M Senior Forward Zach Hyman
On Coach Berenson's 800th win ... "It's pretty special, pretty amazing when you consider how little few games you play in college. It's maximum 40 games in a season, and here he is at 800 wins, so it's pretty incredible."
On reception for Coach Berenson in the locker room ... "I remember a quote of his, where someone asked him, 'You're at 799, did you know that?' And responded with, 'Yeah, if you're counting.' So he's a humble guy, and you don't see it on his face a lot. He was pretty happy back there when we were singing after the game, so he enjoyed it."
U-M Junior Forward Andrew Copp
On what's clicking for the team right now ... "I think a lot is going right. I think our power play did a great job. We went 2-for-3 on the power play, we're getting pucks behind their defense, cycling pretty well down low, scoring off the rush, scoring off faceoffs, good on the power play as I said. Seems like any possible way we can put the puck in the net it's going right. We had a bit different lines this week, so it's nice to see guys gelling quickly. Putting up seven on one of the best defenses in the country is pretty good."
On sweeping a team like Minnesota ... "I think it means a lot, going back to the GLI, getting some momentum there and continuing that this weekend, moving up in the Big Ten standings. It's certainly tough to win up in Minneapolis, so holding serve here at Yost is really important for us. Pairwise, in the NCAA, I don't know where we're at. If we keep playing the way we're playing, I think we'll get in."
