Michigan's lineup at this year's Big Ten Championships was nearly identical to the one from a season ago, with freshman Grace Choi as the only newcomer. The remaining five Wolverines had competed in 11 postseason conference tournaments combined entering the weekend, led by seniors Yugene Lee and Alyssa Shimel, who both played in their fourth conference championships over the past few days.
Michigan's 938 team total is the third-best 54-hole score by a U-M team at the Big Ten Championships, trailing only 2005's 932 total and 2012's 900 total.
Entering postseason play, Grace Choi led the U-M team in the following categories: scoring average (75.36), top-five and top-10 finishes (2), top-20 finishes (3), rounds under par (2) and win percentage (64.5 percent). She finished as the top-finishing Wolverine for the team-leading fifth time this season and added another round under par while adding to her scoring average and win percentage this weekend.
With her two-under 70 on Saturday, freshman Grace Choi earned the day's low score and tied for the second-lowest round of the tournament among a field that featured just six rounds under par all weekend. Choi also tied teammate Yugene Lee's mark from two seasons ago for third-lowest single round score by a U-M golfer at the Big Ten Championships.
Grace Choi's 234 total ties former Wolverine Laura Olin's 2005 showing as the sixth-best 54-hole score among Wolverines at the Big Ten Championships.
Catherine Peters shaved six strokes off her conference tournament score from a year ago to set a new Big Ten Championship-best with her 235 total. Her final-day tally of 77 also marks a personal best in the event.
Yugene Lee shot a 77 on the tournament's final day despite a triple bogey on No. 7 and was one of five U-M starters to lower their day-two score for the tournament's last 18 holes or shoot their weekend-best score.
Lauren Grogan is one of four different Wolverine starters who have lowered their scoring average from a year ago. Entering the weekend, Grogan's average has dipped from 76.87 to 76.44, while fellow starters Catherine Peters (79.25 to 77.63), Yugene Lee (81.29 to 77.68) and Alyssa Shimel (80.44 to 78.36) have also seen their averages drop.
Grace Choi continues to improve with each closing round as she averages 75.56 in the first round and 75.67 in the second round before closing strong with 74.71 in the final round.
Alyssa Shimel and Yugene Lee are U-M's most experienced players with 40 career events each. Shimel has started all 40 of her career events, while Lee has totaled 36 starts thus far.
After starting 10 events last season, Lauren Grogan has continued playing in every event this season. She has started 22 consecutive events for U-M through the close of postseason conference play.
