Today's game marked the fourth meeting between the two schools. U-M now leads the all-time series, 4-0.
The Wolverines found their shooting stroke today, firing at a 47.2-percent clip from the floor (25-of-53), including a first-half mark of 60.7-percent shooting (17-of-28).
The 17 made field goals scored by U-M in the first half of tonight's game match the total number of made field goals in last weekend's loss against SMU (Dec. 20). On the whole, U-M's 25 made field goals are its most since its last victory, against Syracuse (Dec. 2), when it buried the same total.
A pair of Wolverine scorers found double digits tonight, led by a game-high 16 points from Ricky Doyle (6-of-7), who paced U-M in scoring for the first time in his career. Zak Irvin (13 points) also scored in double digits, while another four Wolverines had at least eight points of their own (Caris LeVert, Mark Donnal - 8; Kameron Chatman, Derrick Walton Jr. - 9).
The Maize and Blue tallied 18 assists on 25 made field goals (72-percent). On the season, U-M entered the game averaging 13 helpers per contest; the team totaled 12 assists in the first half alone.
Tonight's game marked highest combined output of the season from Ricky Doyle and Mark Donnal. The duo combined for 24 points (9-of-11) and seven rebounds.
The Wolverines held the Eagles to just 34.4-percent (21-of-61) shooting from the floor while surrendering just six free throw attempts. On the season, Coppin State had averaged more than 10 made free throws per contest and shot better than 37 percent.
U-M tallied 43 rebounds today, to Coppin State's 31, and improves to 6-0 this season when winning the rebounding battle. Michigan's last game with at least 40 rebounds also came against the Eagles (Nov. 29, 2013).
Zak Irvin continues his stretch of having hit at least one three in each game this season (12 games), a streak that reaches 15 games including last season. Irvin sank three triples today (3-of-7), his fourth straight game with at least a pair.
Aside from his 13 points, Zak Irvin also set a career high with his seven rebounds and matched another with his three assists, while Derrick Walton Jr. found a new career high with his nine assists. Walton and Irvin's previous career-best assist marks (eight and three, respectively) also came against Coppin State, in last year's meeting (Nov. 29).
