Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On falling behind early ... "That was the story of the game; we had a breakaway early in the game. We hit two posts. Then sure enough their first outnumbered rush was a 2-on-1; they capitalized on it. Then the wheel started going their way. It's a game of momentum. We didn't capitalize on our chances, and they did theirs. Then we were playing catch-up hockey the rest of the game."
On having good scoring chances throughout the game ... "I think their goalie played well. We didn't get any second-chance opportunities, that was for sure. I thought he saw the pucks, and we fanned on a few of our best chances when we had good shots. I like the way we were trying to generate offense, but then we have a 3-on-1, and we miss the net. We've got to capitalize on those chances. So give the goalie credit. Their goalie played better than ours."
On the team's road struggles ... "Well, there's no switch. Obviously, we haven't played a road game in five weeks. I think our team was excited to play this game because of the opponent and not where the game was played, and we just didn't play well enough. It's not like we're going to change anything dramatically. At the end of the year, you like to say you were a much better team when you stack up your home record and your road record. But nevertheless this was a good team, and it was a good game. We just couldn't get the next the goal. The score was 3-1 in the third, we needed to get the next goal, and then the game really came down to that. Then they got an ugly fourth goal, and that kind of ended it."
U-M Senior Forward Zach Hyman
On the team's good response after the first period ... "I don't think we played that bad of a first period, but we're down 3-0. As coach said, we had our chances. We didn't score on ours, and they put their chances in. We just wanted to regroup in the second (period,) and we came out and had our shots but just couldn't score."
On the team's first half ... "As coach said, I like our team. We have a close group of guys. It's tough going into the break, but we're going to build on this and come back strong for the GLI."
