Freshman Adeja Lambert led Michigan with 21 kills, while sophomore Abby Cole had 20 terminations and led U-M with four blocks. Freshman Caroline Knop added 15 kills for the Wolverines and made it a double-double with 11 digs. Senior Lexi Dannemiller had 61 assists, a season high, and had a double-double with 11 digs. Junior Tiffany Morales led Michigan with 14 digs, while classmate Lindsey Lerg added 12.
Wisconsin took the first set after hitting .346 to Michigan's .167 hitting percentage. Knop had six kills, and Dannemiller served up 11 assists in that set. There were nine ties and five lead changes as the Wolverines led as late as 11-10, but a pair of 3-0 runs gave the Badgers the distance they needed to win the set.
The Wolverines trailed 23-21 in the second set but came back to tie the match with a 26-24 win. Lambert's kill and a service ace from Cole tied the set at 23. Wisconsin's Courtney Thomas' kill gave the Badgers a set point. Lambert and freshman Katherine Mahlke had back-to-back terminations to set up a Michigan set point, which Lambert put away, her seventh kill of the set.
Wisconsin hit .476 to take the third set 25-19, but the Wolverines responded by hitting .432 in the fourth to send the match to the distance. Lambert's kill gave the Maize and Blue a 17-11 lead in set four. She then had kills at 19-13 and 20-14. Freshman Claire Kieffer-Wright put the Wolverines up 21-17 with a termination, and Cole had back-to-back kills to set up set point. Wisconsin fought off one set point, but Lambert ended it with a kill as the match went to the fifth set.
Michigan raced out to a 5-2 lead in set five after Dannemiller and Cole combined on a block. It was 8-5 after a Badger attack error, but UW battled back to tie it at nine on two straight Michigan errors. The Wolverines were up 13-11, before an Ellen Chapman kill and Lauren Carlini service ace tied it at 13. Chapman's kill gave Wisconsin match point. Knop then answered with a kill to tie it at 14, but an attack error and Kelli Bates kill ended the contest.
The Wolverines hit .223 for the match, compared to .268 for Wisconsin. The two teams combined for 11 service aces and 20 errors. Michigan had a 72-57 kill advantage, while UW had 14 team blocks.
