
U-M Suffers Three-Set Defeat at No. 11 Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The University of Michigan volleyball team fell to No. 11 Nebraska in three sets Saturday night (Nov. 22) inside the Devaney Center. Set scores were 25-23, 25-20 and 25-21.
Sophomore Abby Cole led Michigan with 12 kills, while freshman Caroline Knop added 11. Senior Lexi Dannemiller had 38 assists, while junior Lindsey Lerg led Michigan with 11 digs. Freshman Claire Kieffer-Wright was involved in both U-M blocks.
Michigan led for most of the first set, but a late Husker rally gave Nebraska a 25-23 win. Michigan went up 5-3 after a Cole kill and 8-4 off a service ace from Dannemiller. Nebraska tied the set at nine on Kadie Rolfzen's kill but freshman Adeja Lambert's termination put the Wolverines up 15-11. It was 17-13 after blocks from Lambert and Kieffer-Wright and 20-15 on a Husker attack error. The Huskers cut the lead to 21-18 on Kadie Rolfzen's kills and 21-20 on a Husker service ace. Nebraska tied the set at 22 on a Maize and Blue attack error. It was 23-all on a Knop kill but Nebraska scored the final two points, ending the set on Kadie Rolfzen's termination. Each team hit .190 (15-7-42) in the opening set.
The Wolverines took a 3-2 lead in set two on Lambert's kill while her ace tied the second set at eight. Nebraska then went on a 7-2 run, capped by a Husker block. A Michigan error put Nebraska up 17-11. The Wolverines trimmed that lead to 18-16 on a block from freshman Katherine Mahlke and Kieffer-Wright. It was 20-29 on back-to-back kills from Kieffer-Wright and Cole but Nebraska ended the set on a 5-1 run, capped by Nebraska's seventh block of the night. Cole had four kills in that set as Michigan hit .154 as a team.
Nebraska had eight blocks in a 25-21 third-set win. A Husker block made it 5-1 and Kadie Rolfzen's ace put Nebraska on top 9-4. Lambert's kill made it 11-6 Huskers and Cole's termination cut the lead to 13-9. A Dannemiller kill kept the deficit at four (16-12) but a Michigan error gave the Huskers a 20-14 advantage. A Husker block and two Kadie Rolfzen kills gave the Huskers the straight-set win.
U-M hit .174 on the night and had a 47-44 dig advantage. Michigan also had four service aces, two apiece from Dannemiller and Lambert.
The Wolverines close out their home schedule this Wednesday (Nov. 26) against Indiana. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. [ Tickets ]
