Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
One the first line ... "I thought they were the line that seemed to lead the way offensively. Whenever we needed something, they were the line that responded. Not only scoring the first goal, but when our team started to go into a little bit of a funk, (Andrew) Copp's line generated the energy."
On the team's power play ... "We had two power plays tonight. I thought we weren't bad but we weren't as good as we have to be. We maybe got too cute or whatever. Give them credit, they are good on the penalty kill but we need to be better."
On the Max Shuart, JT Compher, Boo Nieves line ... "I thought they were good. I like JT and I thought he was leading the way. He moved the puck pretty well and they had their chances and could have had a couple more. We're not just interested in what they do with the puck but interested in what they do without the puck. It's important that they are responsible in both ends but I like the direction that line is going in."
On the team's discipline ... "It's not just discipline, it's focus and playing the right way and I thought we did that for the most part. We were stopping and starting, we weren't reaching. When we got away from playing that way then you could see the momentum start to swing their way, and then when we got playing the right way we had our way. But, give them credit they are going to play hard. I don't know the makeup of their team, we don't see them often. But I give them credit for playing an honest clean game."
U-M Junior Forward Andrew Copp
On the chemistry of his line ... "I think we had a lot of speed tonight. I think we got pucks in behind their defense and used our speed to get down there and get first on pucks. We had a pretty good cycle going, getting pucks going, and getting them back to the point and getting shots, deflections, and rebounds. So it was a pretty good night for us, we want to keep building on it."
On the team mood after getting a win ... "I think we're pretty happy. Shots were in our favor, kind of speaks to the way we played, especially in their zone. I think we gave up a few too many chances against, and had the puck bounced a few different ways it probably would have been a bit closer game. Overall though I think we're happy, you saw (Max) Shuart, JT (Compher), and Boo (Nieves) get some real chemistry. Our line had some chemistry, we got some things worked out that we needed to get worked out, so we're good."
U-M Sophomore Defenseman Kevin Lohan
On scoring his first goal ... "You dream of scoring a goal, playing for Michigan as a kid. To be honest I didn't do much, Max (Shuart) made a great play, drove wide behind the net and hit JT (Compher) who made a good play to me, and I just had to make sure I put it."
U-M Sophomore Forward Max Shuart
On playing with his new line ... "I can't say enough about those guys, both really good players. Obviously I was just in the right spot at the right time. Anyone probably could have put that in, so it was just a really good play from the start. Boo (Nieves) beating out the icing, using his speed to get on there off a great pass by JT (Compher). I'm really enjoying playing with these guys, trying to take as much advantage of the opportunity as I can."
