Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On the team's slow start ... "There's no question they jumped all over us. You know one team is going to have the edge over the first 10 minutes. We tried to have that edge, but they took it away from us, and they had the edge. They were skating, they were winning the races, and they were winning the battles. They had us on our heels."
On not capitalizing on power-play chances ... "That's another factor in the game. Our special teams have to play better, and that starts with our power play. We had the opportunities. The penalty kill was good. We kept the shots down on that five-minute major, and it kept us in the game."
On the lineup changes ... "We didn't have dramatic line changes, but I thought Boo (Nieves) played really well on the left side with JT (Compher), and they had their chances. But they should be better tomorrow night."
On what he told the team after the game ... "I said we have to start on time, because you know that team is going to start on time. We've got to start better, and we can't be playing from behind all night. They don't give up much, and tonight again they didn't give up much. They've only given up six goals in five games, and that's amazing. We couldn't change that, and we've got to do a better job tomorrow capitalizing on chances, and we've got to be stingier defensively."
U-M Senior Forward Zach Hyman
On the success of the penalty kill..."We're just working hard, trying to keep the shots down and make sure (Zach Nagelvoort) sees everything. With that five-minute major, we pulled it off, so that was big for us."
On what Michigan Tech did defensively to control them ... "I think they're a stingy team. They forecheck pretty well. They throw pucks at the net. A lot of the game was special teams, but when it was 5-on-5 they were capitalizing on their chances."
On the slow start ... "We have to be more prepared. We talked about starting on time and being prepared, and we just have to be ready tomorrow."
