Bektas Wins Singles Crown at ITA Regionals

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Senior Emina Bektas (Indianapolis, Ind./New Braunfels) knocked off junior Ronit Yurovsky (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) in three sets (4-6, 6-1, 6-1) in the championship match as the University of Michigan women's tennis team completed action at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships at Illinois' Atkins Tennis Center on Tuesday (Oct. 21).
It was a rematch of last year's championship match as Bektas and Yurovsky battled for the singles crown. The pair split the first two sets, with Yurovsky taking a 6-4 first-set win and Bektas coming back for a 6-1 second-set victory. Bektas jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the third en route to the 6-1 win for the match.
In last year's final, Yurovsky held off Bektas in three sets for the win.
With today's win, Bektas has earned automatic entry into the singles main draw of the ITA National Indoor Championships (Nov. 6-9) in Flushing, N.Y. Bektas will also participate in the doubles tournament with freshman Alex Najarian after the pair won the title on Monday (Oct. 20).
Michigan will return to action at the Roberta Allison in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Oct. 31-Nov. 2.
