ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against the Detroit Titans Tuesday (Oct. 21) at U-M Soccer Stadium. Sophomore Yamann Sahlool led the Wolverines with four shots on net, while freshman Evan Louro made four stops in net for the second clean sheet of his career.
Michigan had an early chance in the 15th minute, as Sahlool slipped a ball through to junior/senior Colin McAtee at the top of the box. McAtee then took a sliding try on frame that was turned away by Detroit goalkeeper Nathan Steinwascher.
The Titans countered with a chance of its own in the 22nd off the foot of Spiro Pilakos, who led the team in shots with seven. Detroit went on to earn the next five shots in the half to bring the shot count to 7-6 at the half after U-M opened with five straight opportunities.
U-M had chances in the 54th and 64th minute, the first coming off a left-to-right service from junior William Mellors-Blair that was cleaned up by the Titan defense. The latter try came off the foot of freshman/sophomore Tyler Anderson from 20 yards out that was parried away.
The Wolverines closed out regulation with perhaps their best chance of regulation in the 78th, as sophomore Rylee Woods (Jamestown, Ohio/Greeneview) sent in a looping cross from the far side that was headed narrowly wide. Junior James Murphy (Oxford, England/Henry Box School) got his head on the ball, but his attempt sailed wide left.
The Wolverines dominated chances in the pair of extra sessions, as two chances stood out. In the 94th minute, a service to Sahlool was headed off the crossbar. The second and final venomous chance came just two minutes into the second session, as McAtee took a shot in the finishing third that was deflected by the Titan defense and hit the right post prior to the ball being cleared the safety.
U-M continues the homestand on Sunday (Oct. 26) at noon as the Wolverines host No. 8 Indiana from U-M Soccer Stadium. The match will be broadcast nationally on the Big Ten Network, with Dean Linke and Chris Munroe on the call.
