
Cole Repeats as Big Ten Player of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Sophomore Abby Cole (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) of the University of Michigan volleyball team was named the Big Ten Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon (Oct. 20). Cole is the first Wolverine to earn back-to-back weekly honors since Katie Bruzdzinski did the trick on Nov. 6 and 13, 2006.
Cole averaged 5.5 kills per set and hit a torrid .617 hitting clip in sweeps of Rutgers (Oct. 17) and Maryland (Oct. 18). Cole had 21 kills (7.0/s) on 29 swings in the win over the Scarlet Knights. She then had 12 kills with just one error on 18 swings against Maryland. Cole also had a solo block against the Terrapins and ranks second in the league in hitting percentage (.418) and fourth in points per set (4.24/s).
In other weekly awards, Illinois' Katie Stadick and Wisconsin's Taylor Morey shared Defensive Player of the Week honors, Illinois' Alexis Viliunas was the Setter of the Week and Michigan State's Rachel Minarick earned Freshman of the Week.
Michigan next travels to State College, Pa., to face Penn State this Friday night (Oct. 24) at 7 p.m. The match will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
