• The 75-45 victory over Tennessee is the second-biggest margin of victory in NCAA Tournament history for the Wolverines. U-M defeated Virginia by 37 points in the 1989 Southeast Regional finals (102-65).
• Michigan became the first team in NCAA Tournament history to win a game without converting a free throw (0-1).
• Seven players scored eight or more points for the Wolverines.
• The Wolverines had five players reach double figures in scoring. It was the first time since 1998 that the team had five players in double-digit scoring.
• Junior forward Zack Novak had his fifth double-double of the season (14 points, 10 rebounds) and notched his first in NCAA Tournament action.
• Novak hit four-of-six three-point attempts in the game, including three straight at the outset of the second half.
• Sophomore guard Matt Vogrich scored a season-high 11 points in the contest. He tallied nine points in the first half and was perfect from the field (5-5, including one three-pointer).
• Sophomore point guard Darius Morris had a game-high nine assists and contributed eight points.
• Michigan dominated Tennessee in the paint, scoring 46 points to 22 for the Vols.
• The Wolverines outscored the Volunteers 42-16 in the second half; converted 64.3 percent from the field (18-28).
• Coach John Beilein has guided the Wolverines to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three seasons and made his seventh NCAA Tournament appearance.
• Beilein posted an opening-round victory for the second time as Michigan's coach. U-M defeated Clemson, 62-59, in the first round during the 2008-09 season.
• Beilein has an 8-5 all-time record at the NCAA Tournament and is 2-1 as Michigan head coach.
• Beilein has won the opening-round game during his last five NCAA Tournament appearances and nine straight postseason opportunities (five NCAA, four NIT).
• Michigan has appeared in 22 NCAA Tournaments during its 95 years of intercollegiate action (officially 18 appearances since four were vacated due to sanctions).
• The Wolverines have compiled a 36-16 all-time record in the NCAA Tournament.
• U-M had 11 players make their NCAA Tournament debuts in the victory over Tennessee: Eso Akunne, Josh Bartelstein, Colton Christian, Tim Hardaway Jr., Jon Horford, Blake McLimans, Jordan Morgan, Darius Morris, Corey Person, Evan Smotrycz and Matt Vogrich.
• Hardaway, Morgan and Morris made their first career starts in NCAA Tournament play.
• Michigan graduate Tracy Wolfson was the sideline announcer on the game.
• Frank Beckmann subbed for regular announcer Matt Shepard on the Michigan Radio Network broadcast. Shepard had a scheduling conflict with college hockey.
