ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan ice hockey team (No. 11 USCHO.com/No. 11 USA Today/USA Hockey) jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Friday night (Nov. 25), but four unanswered goals by Northeastern led the Huskies to a 4-1 victory over the Wolverines at Yost Ice Arena.
Michigan struck first when Travis Lynch (White Lake, Mich.) snuck a shot through the legs of NU goaltender Chris Rawlings for his fifth goal of the season at the 7:58 mark of the first period. Defenseman Mac Bennett (Narragansett, R.I) picked up his eighth assist of the season on the lone Michigan goal of the evening.
The Wolverines clung to a 1-0 lead through the 5:04 mark of the middle frame, but from that point on Northeastern dominated the scoring.
Steve Qualier kicked off the Huskies' rally with his fourth goal of the year, followed by back-to-back goals courtesy of Cody Ferriero. Braden Pimm netted the fourth NU goal, with 2:11 remaining in regulation, to salt away the victory.
U-M finished the night 0-for-3 on the power play, while Northeastern capitalized on 1-of-3 man-advantage opportunities.
Shawn Hunwick (Sterling Heights, Mich.) thwarted 18 shots in the loss. The Wolverines solved Rawlings just once on 34 attempts.
Michigan returns to action with a matinee contest against Union College on Sunday (Nov. 27) at Yost Ice Arena. Game time is scheduled for a 3:05 p.m. start.
