
Chen Captures Platform Diving Title at Pittsburgh Invitational

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Freshman Carey Chen (Vancouver, British Columbia/University Hill Secondary) capped a successful weekend for the University of Michigan women's divers at the Pittsburgh Invitational, winning the platform competition on Sunday (Nov. 20) at Joe C. Trees Pool.
Chen, who posted an NCAA zone qualifying score of 249.50, led a quartet of Wolverines that held the top four spots off the platform. Senior Amanda Lohman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair), who won the one- and three-meter competitions the last two days, was runner-up on platform (219.20), with freshmen Marina Nazario (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) and Emily Boyd (Monrovia, Calif./Flintridge Sacret Heart Academy) finishing in third (192.50) and fourth (180.25), respectively.
The Wolverines return to action in two weeks, splitting up the squad for a pair of meets. Part of the team will go to the site of this season's Big Ten Championships for the Hawkeye Invitational, Friday through Sunday, Dec. 2-4, in Iowa City, Iowa. The rest will travel the short distance across Washtenaw County for the Eastern Michigan Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2-3, in Ypsilanti.

It was the first time Michigan has officially dove off the platform in a meet this season. It was an exhibitioned event at the Florida/Stanford meet on Dec. 4-5.
It was the first diving win for Carey Chen in her collegiate career.
