
Michigan Adds Trio of Players to 2011-12 Class

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan head baseball coach Rich Maloney announced today (Jan. 27) that right-handed pitcher/outfielder Donnie Eaton (Ann Arbor, Mich./Father Gabriel Richard), infielder Eric Jacobson (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius College Prep) and catcher Dominic Jamett (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./University Liggett School) will continue their academic and athletic career at the University of Michigan beginning in the fall of 2011.
"Donnie, Eric and Dominic are great character kids who have worked very hard to excel both on the field and in the classroom," Maloney said. "We're excited to add them to mix of guys that we have already announced in the early signing period. We think their future is bright and look forward to having all three in our Michigan baseball family next year."
Eaton hit .505 with 12 doubles, five home runs and 49 runs batted in his junior season at Father Gabriel Richard High School in Ann Arbor, Mich. He was an All-Detroit Catholic League honoree as well as a first team all-area selection for the state finalists. Father Gabriel Richard went 43-2 in 2010, with Eaton picking up eight wins on the mound to go along with a 2.79 earned-run average. He helped the Fighting Irish to a league, district and regional championship his sophomore season, hitting .315 with 36 RBI and going 5-2 on the mound with a 1.52 ERA. Eaton also plays basketball and football at Father Gabriel Richard. He was Ann Arbor News Player of the Year and part of Ann Arbor.com's Dream Team his senior year on the gridiron. Eaton is an honor roll student at Father Gabriel Richard and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Jacobson led St. Ignatius Prep in Chicago, Ill., with a .417 batting average his junior season with the Wolfpack. He has been on the Chicago Catholic League All-Academic team since his freshman year and is a member of the National Honor Society at St. Ignatius Prep. Jacobson has a career .386 batting average with a .456 on-base percentage in his three seasons with the Wolfpack. He was invited to the Area Code Games and the Chicago White Sox Black and Silver Games and has been a member of the Illinois Sparks national team, hitting .475 in 2008. Jacobson helped St. Ignatius Prep to a regional championship in 2009. He also has been to the Stanford All-Star and Plainfield, Ill., showcase camp. Jacobson is the son of Jeff Jacobson (1980-83), who was the captain of Michigan's 1983 squad that advanced to the College World Series.
Jamett was a first team all-state, all-region, all-district and All-Michigan Independent Athletic Conference selection his junior year at University Liggett School in Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich. He helped the Knights to a district title in 2010, leading the team in batting average, slugging percentage, doubles, triples, home runs, stolen bases and runs batted in. Jamett threw out an impressive 39-of-40 attempted base stealers as a junior. He is a three-time all-conference, all-region and all-district selection and was a second team all-state selection as a sophomore. Jamett also plays soccer and basketball at University Liggett, captaining the basketball team this season. Jamett is an honor roll student at University Liggett.
Eaton, Jacobson and Jamett join IF Dylan Delaney (Woodland Hills, Calif./Chaminade Prep), RHP Mike Dolloff (Davison, Mich./Davison), OF Will Drake (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield), RHP Ryan Gallagher (Boardman, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney), RHP Matthew Ogden (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) and LHP Trent Szkutnik (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) and C Kevin White (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) as U-M class for 2011-12.
The Wolverines start team practice this Friday (Jan. 28) and open the 2011 season Feb. 18-20 at the Big Ten/BIG EAST Challenge in Florida. Michigan opens the campaign on Feb. 18 against Louisville. Game time is at 4 p.m. at the Al Lang Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.
