ATHENS, Ohio -- Sophomore designated hitter Coley Crank (Pinole, Calif./Pinole Valley) and junior outfielder Ryan LaMarre (Jackson, Mich./Lumen Christi) of the University of Michigan baseball team were named ABCA/Rawlings NCAA All-Mideast Region selections the American Baseball Coaches Association announced today (Tuesday, June 29). Crank was selected to the region's first team while LaMarre earned second team honors.
Crank made a home in the heart of the order for the Wolverines, leading the team in runs batted in with 65 and home runs with 14 while hitting at a .324 clip. Hitting fourth or fifth in the U-M line-up, Crank had nine games with four or more runs batted in and had multiple hit games in nearly half of Michigan's 2010 schedule. Crank set the tone for the season, earning Louisville Slugger National Players of the Week (Feb. 19-21) after he became what is believed to be the first player in the modern era of Division I baseball to hit three home runs on opening day.
LaMarre, a second round selection by the Cincinnati Reds in the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, posted a .419 average -- sixth best by a Wolverine all-time -- with five home runs and 40 runs batted in during the 2010 season. LaMarre was one of the Wolverines top hitters despite missing 18 games due to injury during his junior campaign.
