ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Coming off a breakout junior season, junior Jason Jung (Torrance, Calif./West Torrance) was named captain of the University of Michigan men's tennis team for 2010-11 season, head coach Bruce Berque announced on Sunday (May 30).
"Jason sets the tone every day in practice with his work ethic and hunger to get better," Berque said. "He has also gone out of his way to help our younger players this season. It's these things -- along with his sportsmanship accolades -- that made it pretty clear to me that he would be the best candidate to be our official team captain for next season. I'm very proud of the growth he has made in the past year in terms of his leadership and I know he will do a great job for the team next year."
During the 2009-10 campaign, Jung was an All-Big Ten selection, winning 24 doubles matches and 21 singles matches, mostly coming atop the lineup. He qualified for the NCAA Individual Championships in both the singles and doubles draw, reaching the Round of 16 in doubles with freshman Evan King (Chicago, Ill./Kaplan) and losing in the first round of singles to No. 11 Michael Shabaz (Virginia). Off the court, Jung was named the national recipient of the ITA Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership & Sportsmanship and was one of 12 national finalists for the Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award.
Jung joins Chris Madden (Lotus, Calif./Ponderosa) as the only seniors on next season's roster. A complete roster breakdown for the 2010-11 season can be found below:
