ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Nine swimmers and two divers from the 2009-10 University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team earned either Scholar All-America or All-America honorable mention from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) on Tuesday (June 1).
Fifth-year senior Emily Brunemann (Crescent Springs, Ky./Notre Dame Academy), seniors Margaret Kelly (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) and Leigh Cole (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), and sophomores Liz Koselka (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) and Alexa Mehesan (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) were all named CSCAA Scholar All-Americans. In addition, sophomore Caitlin Dauw (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East), freshman Deirdre Jones (Nashville, Tenn./University School of Nashville), senior Keenan Koss (Southport, Conn./Bishop Ludlowe) and senior Claire Tyler (Rochester, Mich./Rochester Adams) joined divers Caitlin Dunphy-Daly (Royal Oak, Mich./Rochester) and Rachael Ropeik (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) on the CSCAA Scholar All-America honorable mention list.
"This is the most difficult academic team to be named to in all of collegiate sports because the GPAs are so high," said head coach Jim Richardson. "It takes an exceptional person to compete at our level and to maintain the academic standards here at the University of Michigan, and we are fortunate enough to have a handful of young women here capable of doing both. I'm extremely proud of all of these individuals. They embody the highest example of a true student-athlete."
To be eligible for Scholar All-America status, the swimmer or diver must have a minimum 3.5 grade-point average and be invited to the NCAA Championships. All-America honorable mention candidates must also have a minimum 3.5 grade-point average and achieve either a 'B' qualifying standard in swimming or qualify for NCAA Diving Regionals.
