Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On tonight's game ... "I thought we had a lot of good bounces tonight. Some of the goals were lucky goals, but when you're working it hard it seems you get lucky. I thought we were lucky on at least two of the first three goals. [Shawn] Hunwick made a few key isolated saves that became a factor in the direction of the game. For example, when it was 3-0 and they had a great scoring opportunity in the second period and he stopped that and we broke down on a three on one and Louie [Caporusso] scores our fourth goal of the game -- instead of it being three to one it was four to zero. I think there were a couple of spots like that in the game that could have been turning points."
On Michigan's leading scorers playing their best ... "Yes, that's really what should be happening on a team. If you have momentum your top scorers should be your best players. Your team should be playing like a team and you should be playing well defensively. I think we are getting all of that."
On playing with a sense of urgency ... "Lake [Superior] State is a good team. They are good-character kids. You knew they would come out and attack and I thought they did. They forechecked and worked really hard and it was not a one-sided game at that point. It was an even game going back and forth. We were just fortunate on the offensive side. Give them credit, they did not give up. It might not have looked like that, but they did not give up on the ice."
U-M Junior Forward Louie Caporusso
On the playoff series win ... "I think we're feeling great. You win 6-0 and our team is on a high right now. I think it's perfect. Sometimes the bye weekend hurts you in a way. I think this is good for us to get our feet going."
On not looking ahead to next weekend ... "I don't think it was that hard. We were concentrating on Lake Superior this week. Coach did a great job of showing a lot of video clips and things like that to make sure we had to beat these guys -- otherwise we're going nowhere."
On the excitement of possibly playing Michigan State ... "Absolutely. It's a rivalry. It's a big game and it's going to be fun hockey. The way we're playing now we should be okay."
U-M Junior Goaltender Shawn Hunwick
On after a week of practicing as the starting goalie ... "It's huge. Playing Thursday night and Saturday on the road was a good experience. The game didn't go the way I wanted it to, but I took a lot out of it. I watched the video with Blackie [goalie coach Josh Blackburn] and I just had to move on and forget about Saturday night. At practice Monday I started out strong. I felt confident throughout the week."
On making early saves ... "In the previous three games I was in we got a lead right away. It was nice to make a few saves to keep us in it when it was still 0-0 before we got a lead to play with."
On keeping focus ... "I think the more shots the better my rhythm. There are points like last night where I only got five [shots] in a 10-minute span. That's not ideal. You want to stay as sharp as you can and mentally focused to stay in the game. I was communicating with the defense. They had good puck touches and I made some good saves."
