Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On tonight's effort ... "Playing on the road has not been a strength of our team this year. And yet we've had some good games where we outshot teams or out-chanced teams, but we didn't outscore them, especially coming into here. I think our team is more together now and playing better at this juncture than they were earlier in the year. Last night's game gave us a good boost of confidence. And tonight's game the way it started off it looked like it might be too easy. Well we knew that wouldn't happen. With three penalties then it cost us three goals. But our team bounced back. Once we got that tying goal I really liked our team. From then on I thought we played well and played a lot in their zone. This team played hard and [Shawn] Hunwick played hard as the game wore on. It was a terrific team effort."
U-M Junior Defenseman Chad Langlais
On killing MSU's power play in the third period ... "We knew we had a job. We know they're a talented group of players and we had to shut them down. We had to get something going."
On sweeping Michigan State in the playoffs ... "It's something we don't get very often, a sweep here at Munn [Ice Arena]. This is a big weekend for us and we're going to carry this momentum into next weekend."
On if the team is playing its best hockey of the season ... "I think we're peaking at the right moment. I think we're playing strong defensively and strong in front of our goalie. And I think we're getting the [scoring] chances."
On Shawn Hunwick ... "He's been phenomenal. He's had to step in at a difficult time and he's made every save he has to make."
U-M Freshman Right Wing Chris Brown
On using last week's first-round series for momentum this week ... "The whole thing was we were going to start from defense out. We knew we had to give [Shawn Hunwick] a chance and we knew he was going to give us a chance to win every game. The defense played really well and the forwards put in the chances when we had to and we won the series."
On the fast start to the game for U-M ... "We came out hard and strong. We got that 2-0 lead, but they came back. We took some poor penalties and at the end of the first period and they were up 3-2. Going out of the locker room [for the second period] we had to make sure we were coming out hard and match their intensity to grab momentum in the game."
On his game-winning goal ... "It was a great dump by Steve Kampfer. At the same time, me and [Brian Lebler] were just hacking away. A.J. Treais had a great play behind the net to make sure the puck stayed in. Lebler and I were using our strength and whacking away. Luckily it went in and I had a pretty hard celebration going after. It was a game-winner against Michigan State and we're going to the CCHA Championship at Joe Louis Arena."
