Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On tonight's game ... "You knew the early goals would be important, but we didn't expect we'd get three in the first period. It was just that kind of a game. I thought we got a couple of breaks. Let's face it, on Carl [Hagelin's] goal they had a scoring chance, Carl broke down on a breakaway and scored. I think that happened on one of the other goals too; they had a chance [right before]. We're getting the goalkeeping, we're getting the luck and we're putting our chances in."
On if this was Michigan's most complete game of the season ... "It was close to it, definitely close to it. When we broke down we got the goalkeeping and we got the saves and we got a little luck. In the meantime, they haven't played in two weeks and we know what it's like. You know they're going to come back with a different team tomorrow night and we've got to be able to answer that."
On the play of the defense without Chris Summers in the lineup ... "All of these guys have played all year. Even Lee [Moffie] has played 25 games. He's stepping in to fill in for maybe our best defenseman. I thought our defense kept it simple. They got the puck out [well]. They had a couple breakdowns, but for the most part it was so much more mistake-free than what we've seen in some of the games in this building. It was a good game for our team."
On Louie Caporusso ... "He's got a hot stick right now. He's confident. He wants the puck and he's patient with it. Even the last shift of the game, that tells you something about Louie Caporusso. He had a two-on-one and he had two goals in the game, and could have shot or maybe should have shot, but he passed it. He tried to make a pass to [David Wohlberg]. That's why our team is winning because you have players like that that are playing for the team."
U-M Junior Center Louie Caporusso
On what worked for the offense tonight ... "We just came out with a goal of working hard and keeping it basic and things worked out for us. That's the way it is when you keep it simple. Sometimes you're going to get the bounces. We got our bounces early in the game. Carl [Hagelin] buries it on that breakaway and that was huge for us. We took it from there."
On the importance of his goal late in the second period ... "It was a big goal because three goals, that's a comeback area. It's nice to get that other one in there, put five up [on the scoreboard]. It looks a little more demoralizing for them. I thought it was big and helped us in the third."
On his first-period goal ... "The guy was just standing still, so I was like, 'Okay, I'll walk around him and get a little closer.'"
U-M Senior Defenseman Steve Kampfer
On the play of the defense despite missing Chris Summers ... "It just shows how deep we are on defense. When we have a guy go down like Chris, obviously you're going to have to have guys step up and I think guys stepped up tonight. We gave them a couple opportunities where they should have scored, but as a whole I thought we played really well."
On turning defense into offense on the first two goals ... "When you come into an away rink you want to get on them quickly. Obviously, we were fortunate to get on them quickly tonight, get our offense going and that helped out a lot. Just going forward we have to make sure we get another good start. And if we don't, we have to make sure we're playing solid defensively and helping out our goalie."
