Michigan State Series Notes
Michigan's record against MSU in the CCHA Tournament improves to 5-7. Tonight was the first matchup since a 2007 semifinal win by the Wolverines. It was also U-M's first visit to East Lansing during tournament play since 1986 and 1987, when MSU swept both quarterfinal-round series.
Michigan has won its last two games against MSU to improve its season mark to 2-3-0. U-M has scored five goals in each win.
Michigan posted its second win at Munn Ice Arena in nine games (2-5-2), dating back to the start of the 2005-06 season. U-M also won on Dec. 6, 2008.
In his 17th career game against MSU, Steve Kampfer scored his first career goal against the rival.
Team Notes
Michigan has scored first in five straight games and 23 times in 40 contests. U-M has a record of 19-4-0 getting the first goal.
Michigan has scored three goals in a period 16 times this season. U-M had four three-goal stanzas in a stretch of five periods from the third period on March 5 through the first period tonight.
When leading after 20 minutes the Wolverines are 17-1-0.
Michigan has averaged 4.7 goals per game over the last six games, posting a 5-1-0 record during that time. For the season, U-M is scoring 3.2 goals per game.
U-M was 1-for-3 with the man-advantage, bettering its record to 17-8-1 when it scores a power-play goal.
Individual Notes
Three games into the 2010 CCHA Tournament, Louie Caporusso has five goals and three assists. He is U-M's active leading scorer in the CCHA playoffs with a 7-10-17 line 11 career games.
With two goals and an assist, Louie Caporusso has recorded multiple points in four straight games (7-3-10). The junior has 10-6-16 totals in the last 10 games.
Caporusso took over the team lead in goals (18) with his pair of tallies tonight. He entered the game tied with Carl Hagelin.
Carl Hagelin has three goals in the last two games. He has a point in 13 of the last 14 games (5-10-15).
Luke Glendening has a goal and eight assists in the last nine games. His two helpers tonight tie career highs for assists (third time) and points (seventh time). His four multi-point games on the season are a career high for the sophomore alternate captain.
Shawn Hunwick's career-best shutout streak reached 102:25 prior to MSU's goal at 14:39 of the second period. He had not allowed a goal since the third period against LSSU on March 5, two games earlier.
Hunwick has a 4-1-0 record, 1.67 goals-against average and .925 save percentage in the five games of action since taking over the U-M netminding duties.
David Wohlberg scored to boost his point streak to four games (3-2-5), tying his career-best stretch for the third time.
Steve Kampfer scored his career-best third goal of the season. Kampfer has already set career highs for assists (16) and points (19). He leads U-M defense corps in points.
