FLUSHING, N.Y. -- Sophomore Evan King (Chicago, Ill./Kaplan) of the University of Michigan men's tennis team was eliminated in the first round of the 16-player singles consolation draw on Friday (Nov. 5) at the USTA/ITA National Indoors Championships, held at the USTA-Billie Jean King Tennis Center.
King, the No. 95-ranked player in the country, lost to No. 33 Ionut Beleleu (Oklahoma), 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. He was bounced from the main draw on Thursday (Nov. 4) by No. 20 Ryan Lipman (Vanderbilt), 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
King was the last player to compete in a fall event for the Wolverines, officially wrapping up the seasonal slate. Michigan returns to action following the New Year, heading to the Key Biscayne Individuals from Jan. 7-9 in Key Biscayne, Fla. The Wolverines open the dual-match season on Friday, Jan. 15, when they host Western Michigan at 6 p.m. at the Varsity Tennis Center.
