EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The freshman doubles tandem of Barrett Franks (Christchurch, New Zealand/Shirley Boys') and Justin Rossi (Novi, Mich./Laurel Springs Prep) won the 'A' flight doubles title on Friday (Oct. 29) on the first day of the Big Ten Indoor Championships at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
Franks and Rossi won four straight matches to win the title, defeating Connor Roth and Brian Alden (Illinois) in the first round, 9-7; Isade Juneau and Will Kendall (Indiana) in the quarterfinals, 8-6; Joshua Graves and Spencer Wolf (Northwestern) in the semifinals, 8-6; and Petr Satral and Billy Bertha (Wisconsin) in the championship, 8-6.
Freshman Shaun Bernstein (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview Old Bethpage JFK) and sophomore Chris Cha (Eureka, Mo./University of Missouri H.S.) were the other doubles team in action, going 2-2 on Friday. They defeated Will Vasos and Austen Kauss (Iowa), 9-7, in the first round and later downed Alex Robles and Alexander Teppert (Wisconsin), 8-6.
The Big Ten Indoor Championships continue tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 30), as singles play begins.

• Seniors Jason Jung, sophomore Evan King and senior Chris Madden are not playing at the event this weekend.
• On Friday, King was announced as a singles wildcard in next weekend's USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships in Flushing, N.Y. He's the second straight Michigan player to compete in the event, following Jung's appearance last season.
• Following today's doubles action, the team of Franks and Rossi is now 6-2 (.750) on the season in doubles; the team of Bernstein and Cha is 4-4 (.500).
