ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team scored four unanswered goals to cruise to a 4-1 victory over Eastern Michigan on Sunday (Sept. 6) afternoon at the U-M Soccer Complex. Junior Jackie Carron(Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) tallied four points in the first half to lead the Maize and Blue to victory.
Junior/sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Keane(Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) posted three saves to earn her second win of the season. Junior Amanda Bowery(Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) and freshman Holly Hein(Castaic, Calif./West Ranch) benefited from Carron serves off corner kicks to put the Wolverines ahead before Carron scored herself on a free kick and senior/junior Alex Jendrusch(Troy, Mich./Athens) iced the game.
Michigan's success on set plays began in the 21st minute when it trailed, 1-0. Carron's kick went to sophomore Kim Siebert (Troy, Mich./Avondale), who lofted it into the box where Bowery jumped from the crowd and headed the ball in. Hein was a direct recipient of a Carron serve that went through the Eagle netminder's arms and off the freshman's thigh and in with under five minutes in the first half, making it 2-0. Three minutes later, Carron once again tried to find a teammate in the box, this time on a free kick, but the pass eluded all comers and took a bounce into the back of the cage, putting U-M up 3-1 to end the half. Jendrusch then put an exclamation point on the weekend, putting a 25-yard shot under the crossbar with two seconds left in the contest to finalize the 4-1 victory.
The Wolverines will head west to Los Angeles, Calif., next weekend to face Cal State Fullerton on Friday (Sept. 11) at 2 p.m. and Southern Cal (Sept. 13) at noon PDT at USC's McAlister Field.

Q U O T E S
Michigan Head Coach Greg Ryan
On the team's performance ... "We got down again early. We have had such bad luck early, but one of our defenders slipped and one was a little high which left Jackie (Carron) 3v2 and they put one in. The good thing is we keep coming back and we keep responding. Three set pieces in the first half with all great services from Jackie (Carron). Set plays are not only keeping us in games, but helping us win games. Then that last goal was just a piece of artwork with Alex (Jendrusch) chipping the keeper from about 25 yards. We are getting better in all aspects of the game. Eastern had a couple of good attacking players in Ashley Rodrigues and Paige Sheridan. If I had to single out some of the really important performances, I would say Sarah Stanczyk on Sheridan and Kim Siebert on Rodrigues. In the video I watched, those girls were tearing people apart and they did not get a kick today because of Kim and Sarah's work."
On how special Jendrusch's goal was ... "I am so excited. It wasn't just her first, it was a classic goal. She took it so well on her left foot - she is a right footed player - she chips the keeper to the top of the net. It was so good. That is one she is going to remember for the rest of her life and I probably will, too."
U-M Senior/Junior Midfielder Alex Jendrusch
On her first career goal ... "It feels really good. Jill (Ferree) set me up perfectly. The ball came to her and she let it go right by her to give me the perfect set up. I heard the announcer counting down from ten so at seven (seconds), I touched it once and put it in with two seconds left."
On the team's confidence after this weekend ... "It was really good to have a winning weekend. It boosted our confidence. We played our game a lot more than we have the past couple of games. We are mostly a possession team. We did not play down and put four goals in."
