
Bauer Named Captain for Second Straight Year

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's golf head coach Cheryl Stacy announced today (Tuesday, August 25) that senior Ashley Bauer(Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS) has been chosen as the team captain for the 2009-10 season. It marks the second straight year Bauer has been given the honor.
"I am extremely happy to announce that Ashley Bauer will be the captain of our team for the upcoming season," said Stacy. "She is well deserving of this honor. The fact that she has been named captain for past three years speaks volumes about her character. Ashley's work ethic, attitude and determination have made her one of the most consistent players in the history of this program. She has earned a tremendous amount of respect from her peers and coaches and I am confident that she will continue to lead this team throughout the upcoming season."
"I'm honored coach Stacy has selected me captain for this upcoming year," said Bauer. "Being captain is a privilege at the University of Michigan and a great responsibility. I am excited about the upcoming season and hope my experiences will be able to help the team as we compete for a Big Ten title. It has been a great three years playing at U-M and I am looking forward to my final season."
Bauer, who was an All-Big Ten second team selection in 2009, has yet to miss a start and a tournament in her three years in Ann Arbor, starting 36 consecutive events. Currently she holds U-M's all-time career stroke average record with a 76.48 per-round average. In her career, Bauer has finished as the top Wolverine in 19 of 36 career events with 20 top-20 individual finishes, 13 in the top 10 and six in the top five, including her first career win, which came at the 2009 Wolverine Invitational.
She is one of five Wolverines in the 68 Club, for lowest single-round score in U-M history. Bauer also holds or shares U-M records for an 18-hole tournament score (68), 36-hole tournament score (74-74/148) and 54-hole tournament score (70-71-71/212). The two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection is enrolled in U-M's prestigious Stephen M. Ross School of Business.
