
Oudsema Joins Michigan as Volunteer Assistant Coach

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan head men's tennis coach Bruce Berque announced Thursday (June 11) that Scott Oudsema will join the Wolverines as a volunteer assistant coach. Oudsema, who carries an impressive rsum of professional and junior playing accomplishments, will assist the Wolverines while attending classes at U-M.
"I'm thrilled that Scott has chosen to join our coaching staff as he pursues his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan," said Berque."His experience, both as a professional and as one of the top juniors in the world, will be a tremendous asset to our players, and we're all looking forward to having him on board."
A native of Portage, Mich., Oudsema achieved career-high ATP world rankings of No. 151 in doubles and No. 255 in singles in 2007. He has captured USTA Challenger singles and doubles titles in Binghamton, N.Y., and a USTA Challenger doubles crown in Waikoloa, Hawaii. Earlier this year, Oudsemaearned runner-up finishes in singles and doublesatITF Futures events in Great Britain.
As a junior player, Oudsema was a two-time Australian Open doubles champion (2003-04), a U.S. Open doubles champion (2004) and a Wimbledon doubles champion (2004). He made history in 2003 when he became the first American to be named the ITF Junior Boys' Doubles World Champion. Oudsema was also listed as high as No. 6 in theUSTABoys' 18-and-undersingles rankings in 2004.
Oudsema is currently preparing for his second season in the Advanta World TeamTennis (WTT) Pro League. He will join 10-time Grand Slam singles champion Serena Williams and three other players on the Washington Kastles, who will compete against nine teams throughout the month of July. In his first season with Washington in 2008, Oudsema finished with the fifth-best singles record among WTT players.
