Hitting For a Day Off
WEDNESDAY | MARCH 11, 2009
Michigan women's gymnastics junior Maureen Moody (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) is looking forward to helping U-M post a new season-high score and end of the regular season on a high note.
All season long, Mo will give fans a behind-the-scenes look at the U-M gymnastics program as it marches towards Lincoln, Neb., and the NCAA Championships in April.

The team came into practice this Monday still on a high from the competition this past Friday, where we accomplished our goal and turned in our highest team score, breaking the 196 barrier. For our workout, we went through a mock competition on three of the four events. Starting on beam, the team replicated Friday's steady and confident performance. It seems like beam is becoming one of our strongest events. Next, we moved to vault where the lineup "competed" very well and even showed some stuck landings. Before the last event of the day, bars, Bev brought us together for a pep talk. The past few years bars has been our highest scoring event, however, the last several meets we have not competed up to our potential. As an incentive to perform up to our ability, Bev told us if we went through lineups and each earned a desirable score, practice would be canceled the next day.
We went through the mock competition twice on bars, making the improvements and small detail corrections the coaches were looking for. The team has a day off from practice! In addition to the day off, Tuesday is Becky's birthday and we are all getting together for a little celebration. On Wednesday, we will come back to the gym for two more practices, gearing up for our competition against the University of Georgia.
Georgia, another school that brings in huge crowds, will be an exciting place to end our regular season. The team has raised the bar again, and set a goal of 196.500 or higher. I am looking forward to end regular season on a high note and take that momentum into Big Tens!
Until next time, Go Blue!
