Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On tonight's win ... "I think we saw more glimpses of the way our team can play. We haven't seen much of that. Our chances started to go in. We started to play better with the puck. I thought we were a little better without the puck. I think that was the best game our team has given our goalie and when [Bryan Hogan] had to stand tall he gave us a good game in the third period. Let's face it, we've been a pretty good team in the first two periods [lately] and in the third we've either collapsed or shot ourselves in the foot. Tonight was a better third period."
On scoring first and then adding on two more goals in the first period ... "That was huge. I thought we had a good start last night, but it never amounted to anything. We got one goal and then we gave up a goal. [Last night] we had seven really good chances. Tonight, we put some of those chances in. I can't tell you they were pretty goals. The first goal we got the puck back to the defense, got a smart shot, deflection, goal. You have to score goals like that and we haven't been getting them. [A.J.] Treais' goal was kind of a loose puck in front of the net. Take advantage of a loose puck and pounce on it, but we haven't been doing that. We've been snakebitten offensively. When Michigan plays five games and only scores six goals I can't, in my long-term memory, remember that. We need to score goals to win games and it was good to see the puck go in tonight."
U-M Junior Forward Carl Hagelin
On what led to tonight's win ... "I think we all came back from last night and we realized that we have to play better. That's the bottom line. We have to come out stronger, get some hits. A guy like Matt Rust probably had five or six hits today. A lot of other guys really played well. It was just coming out strong and for once playing all 60 minutes. In the last period we showed a lot of character in killing off that penalty. We didn't give up a goal in the third, which is very important."
On ending the five-game losing streak ... "It means a lot. You could hear the guys in the locker room after the game; we were all excited. But we know there's another week coming up against two great teams. We can't think too much about this game, but this is obviously great for our confidence to get going and have a good week of practice. We know that we can score four goals in a game and that's important."
On the importance of killing five Bowling Green power plays ... "It's always important. Yesterday we gave up two goals on the PK and they won the game through that. Today we took a little bit more pride on the PK. We took more penalties, but we killed more. I think we were 100 percent and you can't be better than that."
