ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Adam Harris (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) of the University of Michigan men's track and field team was named Friday (July 25) to the Guyana Olympic team for the upcoming 2008 Olympic Summer Games.
Harris, whose mother was born in Guyana, became the Wolverines' latest Olympian when he received notification that he had been named to the country's Olympic Team to compete in the 200 meters. He is Guyana's only qualified male athlete for the upcoming Olympics.
Harris, a senior sprinter for the upcoming track and field season, is the reigning Big Ten Track Athlete of the Year and Athlete of the Championships for the outdoor season. He earned the Olympic B qualifying mark (20.75) when he won the 200-meter event at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in May.
With the addition of Harris, a total of six current and former members of the Michigan men's track and field team will be participating in the 2008 Olympics this summer.
