The No. 10-ranked University of Michigan wrestling team (1-1, 0-0 Big Ten) will open the home portion of its 2008-09 campaign on Sunday (Dec. 14) with a non-conference dual against intrastate rival No. 16 Central Michigan at 2 p.m. in Cliff Keen Arena.
The annual Michigan-Central Michigan dual meet has become one of the nation's most competitive intrastate rivalries over the last several years. While the Wolverines own a sizable 19-4 advantage in the all-time series dating back to the 1981-82 season, CMU has claimed each of the last two meetings, including a 21-13 victory in last season's dual in Mount Pleasant, Mich. Both squads boast multiple ranked wrestlers, and Sunday's dual will feature top-20 showdowns at 125, 141 and 174 pounds.
