TULSA, Okla. -- Sophomore Jason Jung(Torrance, Calif./West Torrance HS) of the University of Michigan men's tennis team fell in the second round of singles qualifying at the D'Novo ITA All-American Championships today (Tuesday, Oct. 7) at Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Making his second career appearance at the prestigious event, Jung lost in three sets to Arizona's Jay Goldman, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Jung started the match strong, rolling to a 6-2 win in the opening set, but Goldman rallied to even the match with a convincing 6-1 win in the second set and closed out the match with a 6-4 win in the third set. Jung had advanced to the second round with a three-set win over Georgia Tech's Eliot Potvin (6-3, 4-6, 6-4) Monday afternoon.
Jung will team with junior Mike Sroczynski(Chatham, N.J./Laurel Springs School) in the doubles main draw competition beginning Thursday (Oct. 9).
Sroczynski and senior Andrew Mazlin(Altamonte Springs, Fla./Lyman HS) each played one consolation singles match Tuesday after dropping their opening matches Monday. Sroczynski squared off against David Simon of Miami (Fla.) and picked up a 7-5, 6-2 win, while Arkansas' Dimitry Lebedev defeated Mazlin 6-3, 6-7 (4), 10-5.
