BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The University of Michigan women's cross country team dominated the Indiana Open on Saturday (Sept. 8), taking seven of the top 10 spots and placing all 12 of its runners in the top 17 of the 37-runner field. Host Indiana, Ball State and IUPUI also competed in the 5,000-meter, non-scoring event at the IU Cross Country Championship Course.
Wolverine fifth-year senior Erin Webster (Dearborn, Mich./Divine Child) captured first place for the second straight year at this event, finishing 17 seconds ahead of the second-place runner, U-M senior/junior Nicole Edwards (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey). In her first race for the Wolverines, freshman Danielle Tauro (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional), who won last week's meet competing unattached, took fourth place with a time of 18:02, five seconds out of third.
Rounding out the top 10 were junior/sophomore Geena Gall (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) senior Elisabeth Uible (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) and junior/sophomore Kelly Sampson (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance), who ran as a pack and finished sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, and sophomore/freshman Rachel Severin (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea), whose time of 19:15 placed her 10th for the second time in as many events.
The Wolverines will return to the state of Indiana for their next competition, the Notre Dame Invitational, on Friday, Sept. 28, in South Bend.
