ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Severe cold and snowy conditions has kept the University of Michigan baseball and softball teams from playing any portion of their weekend Big Ten Conference homestands with Sunday's (April 8) cancellation of dual doubleheaders. The games will not be rescheduled.
The U-M baseball squad (16-6, 4-0 Big Ten) are scheduled to host Toledo on Wednesday (April 11, 3 p.m.) before playing a Big Ten series at Ohio State (April 13-15). Minnesota (17-6, 2-1 Big Ten), having played just three of eight scheduled Big Ten road games to open the season will host conference series with Iowa (Apr. 13-15) next week.
The last time the Wolverines had a home Big Ten series wiped out was the 1998 home-opening series vs. Iowa. The Wolverines had three games lost to weather against Ohio State in 2005. Michigan has now lost five games to the weather this season.
Softball (28-6, 1-1 Big Ten) will play Ball State at home on Tuesday (April 10, 5 p.m.) before heading out for seven straight road dates, including Big Ten slates at Iowa and Illinois next weekend (April 13-15).
Like baseball, the U-M softball squad has lost five games to weather this season.
