ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's golf coach Andrew Sapp has reintroduced an instructional golf camp for junior golfers at the U-M Golf Course this summer. The new Wolverine Boys Golf Camp is designed for junior golfers (ages 11 to 18) who are interested in developing their games for competition and preparing for their upcoming high school seasons. The camp is scheduled to be held Saturday through Tuesday, July 28-31.
"We are really looking forward to working with some of the junior players from around the state of Michigan and the entire region," said Sapp. "We will offer them some very solid instruction, but also talk about competitive situations and relevant topics to tournament players. I hope to have a great turnout in our first year and make this a new beginning for a great Michigan Golf tradition. I am sure that every camper will leave U of M a better player and, perhaps more importantly, will have a plan for continued improvement."
The Wolverine staff will give personal instruction including full-swing video analysis and swing improvement drills. Campers will also participate in skill challenges and partner practice. Juniors will learn the fundamental techniques for basic and specialty shots.
Along with instruction stations, the coaches will facilitate discussions on college golf, team building, long-term game development, recruiting and practice techniques. The last day of camp will consist of an 18-hole camp tournament to be played on the U-M Golf Course. Every camper will receive a camp report at the end of the session with a coach's evaluation and game plan for continued improvement.
All instruction will take place at the Varsity Golf Practice Facility at the U-M Golf Course. The practice facility includes two large, bent grass tees for full swing instruction. Campers will also utilize a fantastic short game facility including two manicured chipping, pitching and putting greens with more than 100 total yards of fairway for pitching practice.
