ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan wrestling program will host a wrestling clinic on Friday (Nov. 16) from 4-7 p.m. at Cliff Keen Arena. The clinic will feature technique and practice-planning instruction from three-time NCAA champion T.J. Jaworsky as well as members of the Wolverine coaching staff. Videocameras will be permitted and attendees can come down to mat level during the clinic.
"T.J. Jaworsky is one of the all-time greatest wrestlers in collegiate history," said U-M head coach Joe McFarland. "I have tremendous respect for his wrestling ability, his work ethic and his competitiveness. Technically, T.J. really has a thorough understanding of the sport and really knows how to teach it; that's why we are so excited about having him at this clinic."
Jaworsky captured three straight NCAA titles at 134 pounds (1993, '94, '95), listing as the only three-time NCAA champ in Atlantic Coast Conference history. In his senior year of 1995, Jaworsky was named the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Wrestler and recipient of the Dan Hodge Award as the national Wrestler of the Year. He compiled a record of 38-0 that season, posting only the second undefeated season in school history. Jaworsky holds UNC record in career winning percentage (.957), career falls (50) and single-season falls (24, 1995).
He was a three-time ACC champion and was twice named the ACC Tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler (1993, 95). He was also named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the 1995 National Duals and was tabbed the 1995 ACC Wrestler of the Year. After his graduation, Jaworsky earned a spot on the U.S. National Freestyle Team at 63 kg. in June of 1998. He was an assistant coach at North Carolina (1995-2001) and served as head coach at Davidson College.
Immediately following the clinic, wrestling fans will get their first look at the 2007-08 Michigan team at the annual Maize and Blue Intrasquad as the final wrestle-offs will determine the starting rotation.
